How well do these candles fill a room with fragrance?
Our candles are designed for spaces ranging from a 12x12 bedroom to a medium-sized living room, providing subtle yet noticeable aromas. They can also be used in larger rooms, but the scent will become less noticeable the farther you are from the candle.
Are your products suitable for people with allergies?
Our candles contain less fragrance oil than standard candles, making them a milder option. However, they still contain fragrance, which may affect individuals with sensitivities or allergies. For the most allergy-friendly choice, we offer unscented tealights made with 100% soy wax.
How quickly should the melt pool reach the edges of the container?
Coconut-apricot wax candles often require multiple burns to achieve a full melt pool that reaches the container's edges. It's common for the wax to cling to the sides during the initial burns; however, as the candle burns down, the heat will eventually melt the remaining wax, resulting in a complete melt pool (1/2 - 3/4 through the candle's lifespan). To promote an even burn and prevent tunneling, it's recommended to burn your candle for up to 4 hours at a time and allow the wax to melt as close to the container's edges as possible during each session.
Additionally, trimming the wick to ¼ inch before each burn can make a significant difference in the longevity and clean burning of your candle. A long wick burns too hot and will both use up the candle more quickly and create soot. Using a wick trimmer, scissors, or nail clippers can help achieve a close cut.
Remember, patience during the initial burns will enhance the overall performance and lifespan of your coconut-apricot candle.
How should I store my candles or wax melts?
Store your candles, wax melts, or tealights in a cool, dry place between 60-75°F (16-24°C) to prevent melting, cracking, or discoloration. Keep them away from direct sunlight, heat sources, and humidity. For best results, store candles with lids on or in their original packaging to protect against dust and fragrance loss. Wax melts should be kept in a sealed container or bag to maintain scent quality. Avoid freezing temperatures to prevent texture changes.
What's the difference between Coconut Apricot wax and other waxes?
Coconut Apricot wax blends coconut and apricot oils, offering superior scent throw, smooth finishes, and clean burns compared to paraffin or soy waxes, which vary in performance and eco-friendliness.
What is soot? How do I reduce it?
Soot is the black residue that forms when a candle burns with too much flickering or an oversized flame. To prevent it:
- Trim the wick to about 1/4 inch before lighting to keep the flame at a proper size.
- Keep the candle in a stable, well-ventilated spot away from strong air currents to reduce excessive flickering (some flickering will happen regardless).
- Wipe the jar regularly between burns with a dry or slightly damp cloth to remove any soot buildup.
How do I clean my ceramic wax warmer?
Remove the wax: Once the wax has cooled and solidified, place the ceramic bowl in the freezer for 10-15 minutes. This will cause the wax to shrink and detach. You may need to push down on one side of the wax to help release it.
Clean the bowl: After removing the wax, wash the ceramic bowl with warm, soapy water using a soft cloth or sponge. Avoid abrasive cleaners or tools that could scratch the surface.
Dry thoroughly: Ensure the bowl is completely dry before using the warmer again.
How is burn time calculated?
We begin by lighting the candle with a wick trimmed to approximately 1/4", allowing it to burn for 4 hours at a time. After each burn session, the candle is left to rest for at least 5 hours before being re-lit.
Why do we use soy wax for tealights instead of coconut wax?
Our coconut waxes excel in scent throw—the ability to spread fragrance through the air when lit. While soy wax performs well, it does have a few drawbacks:
- The scent throw is less noticeable.
- It tends to form a crystal-like layer called frosting, especially visible with dyes.
- When cooled, it often solidifies with rough, uneven surfaces.
- It's more prone to developing air pockets, also known as sinkholes.
However, nearly all of these issues are irrelevant or absent in smaller, unscented tealights. This wax ensures high quality, lowers production costs, and offers customers better value—an excellent alternative to costly coconut waxes.
My flame is getting large! What do I do?
If your flame is larger than 1", blow out your candle and trim your wick to 1/4" long. That's approximately the height of 4 stacked quarters.
Why is my flame flickering?
A flickering flame in your candle jar or tin is usually caused by limited airflow or natural variations in burning as the candle burns down. This is normal and doesn’t affect the candle's performance or safety.
Please trim your wick every 4 hours to maintain the optimal flame height.
Where are the products manufactured?
All of our candles, tealights, wax melts, match samples and fragrance cards are handcrafted or hand poured in Ossining, New York using US suppliers for the raw materials, although those suppliers may have sourced their products internationally. The wax warmers, wick trimmers, and candle accessory sets are imported from China.
